As you can imagine traveling together - me with my ADHD and that is a good enough atttude and Mike with his OCD and Anal tendenacies we do some pretty silly and stupid things. Here is a list of all the dumb things we have done.
As we were driving it was lovely out and we decided to open the sun roof in the truck to see the beautiful sky to only be greeted by the camper - we completely forgot the camper was on the truck.
I try to work out three days a week and the peeps in Edmonton got quite the show as I worked out with my clothes on inside out.
Epic Failure - for whatever reason we decided to put out the awning before we set the camper in Tok, AK. Of course we had to move the camper and completely tore the awning out of the track. Exactly, one week into the trip and we have no awning for the next 8 weeks :(
My e-bike is pretty tall and I have to drop my seat to put my foot down and stop. Well after the margarita tour in Denali I was being all cool pulling into the Visitor lot on my e-bike and forgot to drop my seat. I went down like a board in front of a nice crowd. Mike was laughing so hard - luckily no injuries and I had my helmet on!
Mike purchased this massive (25 gallon) grey and black water tank. We put it on the back of the camper in case we boondocked for a week or so and didn’t have access to sewer. We laughed so hard as for the first two weeks we always had sewer. We got to Denali and unbeknownst to us we didn’t have sewer. The black tank monitor is not working and we just thought we would try it as the grey water (13 gal was full) and the black kept showing empty - well it wasn’t. We took 25 gallons (about 200 pounds) of yucky water to the sewer drop. YEAH for Mike and thinking we may need the tank!
Went out to a fabulous dinner at the Homestead in Talkeetna. Mike had Elk Pie and it was delicious. We ended the night with wild blueberry cobbler. But, the chef forgot the cobble part. We literally had a skillet of blueberries and a teaspoon of oatmeal. As Mike said - we had wild blueberry soup - it literally was soup.
Homer was pretty good - we didn’t have any issues (I know miracle)
We took the camper to Soldotna and got the awning fixed - all was good except they rolled it up backwards. Thank goodness the motors are bi-directional so one little flip and it worked perfect.
The campground in Seward was the pits. Its locale was amazing, but not the showers. They were just a house with no heat and you had to push the button for 30 seconds of water. I went to try it and the line was 4 deep. They had 2 toilets and 2 showers for well over 100 campers. So - I went 5 days without a shower - you could ring the grease out of my har - gross!!!
Today (7/10) Mike was adimate that we got the jeep washed - so we went to the laser wash as it was touch free and he was sure it would recognize the bike rack as part of the car. Well car washes here are expensive (18 bucks) and it did not recognize it. The car wash completely stopped when it hit the bike rack, the alarms off and the car wash stopped with soap all over the car and made us drive out - well we at least got some soap on it :0 - hahahahaah
One of the main reasons we went to Barrow was so that Mike could do the Polar Plunge. He was the only one in the family who had not done it as Christa, Jamie, Jessie, Harlow, Marcene all did it in 2004. So off we go to Barrow and Mike forgot his swim trunks — he bought some boxers at the airport as he only has the tiny tighty undies :). His new swim trunks say Stud Puffin as I love Puffins and he is my stud :)
July 19th - Saturday - We stopped at Destruction Bay for the night and woke up to a flat tire. By the grace of God we stayed in Destruction Bay and Chuck the Tire Man was able to fix our tire :). Mike helped him out - he was 1/2 Kluane Native and 1/2 Norwegian and 86 years old. Super Nice Guy
There is something about AlCan dirt. We paid over 20 dollars to wash the jeep and the camper. The camper looked a bit better as did the truck. The jeep looked almost exactly the same - so weird.
BLUNDER - HORRIFIC ERROR: I deleted at least 1/2 of the blog! I only had 2 more stays to update and then I deleted so many pages. I spent 4 hours redoing it- bahahaha. We had a 4 hour layover in Juneau and that is what I did 7/28
We had a pretty easy two weeks until we left Banff and headed to Glacier 8/11. We finally got stuck at a gas pump and had to unhook the truck because we couldn’t move. We did it in record time - 90 seconds. We were so flustered that it took us 3 tries to hook it back up, but it didn’t help that we were on a hill.
Mike wants me to put that he would be a millionaire if he got a dollar every time I hit the wrong button on the truck, had him google things when I was driving and cleaning my glasses constantly when i am driving and my inability to find anything when I put it in a safe place. Then complaining about the bumpy road when he drives. But - remember I am the one writing the blog and I did plan the whole trip so actually I should get paid! Hahaha
